Late Entry: My Day

Note: This post is due for a few days, I had been so busy, I dun even have enough time for my beauty sleep..

Last Saturday was a really tiring day for me..

I did not know that just walking around from 10am-4pm and going up and down the stairs can be so tiring.

It was TOC's OTTO Camp that day, which is equivalent to an Open Day.

(my colleagues -Diana and Waiky)
It was quite an interesting day, as I get to walk around the workshop, getting closer to my fellow colleagues and instructors, and I get to put my crash course product knowledge to test.

I actually did quite ok, I counselled 2 different groups, 1 was a sister-bro group, and another is a group of 4 youngsters. They didn't sign up yet though, but I feel proud of myself hehe..

The workshop were huge! From the outside of the building this campus sure did not seem to be able to have such spacious room. I guessed I am wrong.

I'll leave the rest to the pictures, since pictures say thousand words.

I would like to introduce to you,

And she's here in Malaysia!

Is It That Difficult?

What is it with my name?

Which part of it is hard to pronounce?

S-H-E-R-Y-L

SHE-RYL

SHERYL

So hard to pronounce meh?

People keep mispronouncing my name as Sherly, and I seriously couldn't understand why.

Such a big difference in the pronounciation!!If you type Sherly instead of Sheryl, I can still understand as sometimes we tend to type too fast or without looking at the words properly.

But PRONOUNCIATION is totally different lo..Sigh..

Note: I think I've written about this before, so bear with the repetition. And I'll let him entertain you.

P.S: I am so pissed right now that Kris Allen won the title of American Idol. He totally cannot sing well and he does not have the star quality to win.. *tsk*

Hectic+Recce@Nikko Hotel

I've been working in TOC for 2 weeks plus now.. From stranger to now starting to get a hang of everything. I have to say it is quite a speedy process.

Well I think I have to give credit to my boss and supervisor for throwing me straight into the deep sea, giving me responsibilities thus allowing me to learn things faster.

(me in my t-shirt uniform)

Now I am able to answer some enquiries, almost know all the who's who from over 100+ of people in the company, and I'm involved in quite a few stuff now..

Ok, the above was written yesterday, and now I am not in the mood to write about that. Instead, I wanna talk about my recce at Nikko Hotel today (as in Wed, May 20).

This recce is to check the place out for our upcoming graduation in June.

This is my first time stepping into this hotel, and I gotta say, this is one grand and classy hotel!

The services are good, the decorations are elegant and pretty, and the buffet lunch was good!

Especially the potato gratin, so cheesy and potato-ish *drools*, plus it's FREE! It comes with our recce package, supposedly food tasting session for the upcoming graduation.

See how happy I am?

(I took this in the toilet :p)

Attitude First

Our company invited a professional speaker to give us a talk about attitude.

The talk is all about the importance of attitude in determining the success of a person.

Sam, the speaker, touched on 2 points that I agree with wholeheartedly.

#1: Learn to love yourself. It is only when you love yourself that you can starts to achieve great things.

#2: Ppl can give you the opportunity, but it also depends on whether you want and you accept the opportunity or not.

He even showed a research where when you change the word attitude to numeric numbers and sums up the total, attitude actually equals to 100%.

In the end, everything boils down to your attitude. And I guess it's true, without the right attitude we will never be able to live happily and be successful.

Do you agree with me?

Nicknames

When I was working for my ex company, I was usually referred to as Sheryl, the chinese expert.

This is due to my proficiency in the Chinese language as no one around the office can read and write and speak the language.

Now, in my current company, this is how my boss always introduce me to everyone else such as suppliers.

"Come, meet Sheryl. She is the storyteller, she needs to know many many stories as she will use all these stories to build her stories."

Geng or not, now I am the storyteller, because my job is basically to find different angles to write different stories and then pitch it to different media.

So my job is not the marketing coordinator already, it's marketing coordinator slash PR slash storyteller.

But he uses the word storyteller on me so many times until it makes me wonder, maybe next time when they print my name card, they should just put storyteller as my designation instead.

The First Week Of New Job

With today, it concludes my first week working at TOC. It was basically quite different from what I have been imagining and expecting before I started on this job.

I'll recount all the happenings for this week according to day.

st Day:
Filled up about 6 forms, tried on different sizes of formal shirt and the black shirt.

Yes, we are all provided with uniforms. Monday we are to wear the formal shirt, then Tues-Thurs is the black shirt, whereas Friday we can wear any other office attire and Saturday we can wear more casual such as jeans.

Then I was told that every Friday there will be a staff meeting, and new staff is required to sing a song. He even said this is to bully us. :(

After I was showned to my desk, my heart leaped delightedly as I saw a PC on my desk!! YAY!!

A short while after I have settled down, immediately I was asked to write an article for The Star with the deadline on Wednesday. So off I go writing the article.

That's all for day one.

nd day:

Hmm.. Now I can't remember what exactly happened on the second day, I have fragments of memories of my boss giving me some briefing on the automotive industry, what is my job scope bla bla bla. And then I was assigned another article, this time in chinese as it is for Sin Chew, where the deadline is Friday.

Oh this is the day where I started to have lunch with not only my supervisor, but another 2 colleagues who were really fun.

I think that's all.

rd day:

This is the most important day, coz a few important things happened! Firstly, I sit in for a few meeting, one of which is about the upcoming graduation, where out of nowhere I was selected to go for a recce and food tasting at the hotel where the graduation will be held. Haha.. Lucky!

But that's not the best thing for the day, the best thing was after the graduation meeting, i went back to my desk and saw some guests at my boss' office (P.S: FYI, my boss' office is directly behind me, separated by a glass wall only, which means he can see my every move clearly).

I did not pay much attention to the guests, as he always has alot of guests. At that moment, my supervisor told me to sit in for the meeting with Alex Yoong as TOC is sponsoring his team for the race. Then only I realized that the guy behind me was HIM!! OMG OMG OMG..

As he stood to greet me, I was really shocked at how good he look but of coz I still behave professionally la.. (if you wanna read more of my encounter with Alex Yoong, read the previous post)

This is the day I met more of the people working at my floor. Quite a balanced mix of gender here, and as my floor consists of the admission and the marketing team, thus we have a very dynamic personalities here, and everyone is really friendly and funny.

th Day:

Nothing much for today, the usual of attending meetings, continue with my write up, briefing session from boss.

Supposedly there was a highlight of the day, and it was dinner with Alex Yoong, my boss and others. I was so looking forward to it, but then boss told us the dinner is cancelled as Alex is not free or something like that. Sigh, I feel so sad, coz I had to cancel the dinner with my besties becoz of this dinner, and then this dinner tak jadi pulak. sigh..

th Day:

Which is today! I had a mixed of emotions about today, one part of me was looking forward to it as after this it would be the weekend, and bcoz wesak day is on Saturday, I dun have to work! Hurray!!
But then I know I have to sing at the staff meeting, so I was kind of praying that there won't be any staff meeting. Well, it wasn't as scary as I thought.

Their staff meeting was conducted in a very relaxed manner, I was the ONLY ONE who brought my organizer, notepad and pen with me, the rest were in a very relaxed state and all were kidding. I was kinda nervous and shaking due to the cold temperature, and I did not know where am I supposed to sit as no one said anything to me.

Eventually I asked someone, and quite a few smiled at me and asked whether I'm ready to sing and what song I would be singing. Made me more nervous only >_<

It was a really short meeting, no one has anything to report, so it came to the introduction of new staff and the sing song part. Me and another guy were the new staff, so after a brief introduction of ourselves, we were asked to either sing a duet or do it individually. The guy straight away said, "of coz ladies first." swt lo..

After the William Hung's speech of how I am not a professional singer and all, I started my verse of Colours of The Wind, the song from Pocahontas. As soon as I sang the first line, the originally noisy crowd stopped all the chattering and laughing, and i can sense some amazement in some of their expressions *beam* so perasan of me wakakaka..

Nothing much happened after that, finished edited my Chinese write-up and am now playing with time by pretending to be busy haha..

It's been quite a good week I supposed.. But now I just wanna relax for the weekend, and I have something to look forward to :)

FAQ: My New Job

I've been getting alot of questions about my new job, so I thought it would be good to answer everyone's queries once and for all. You know, no need to repeat the same stories so many times haha..

Q1. What and where is your new workplace?

A: I'll be working for TOC, which stands for The Otomotif College, a vocational school that produces future mechanics, it empowers people with the proper knowledge for automotive industry.

The location of TOC is just next to 88 foodcourt, also known as PJ19 foodcourt (i think). It's just opposite of the Perodua showroom, and its near the rothman roundabout. (Click here if you wanna know the exact location)

Q2. What will you be working as? What is the job scope?

A: My position would be Marketing Coordinator. As glam as the title sounds, in reality it is basically not so classy at all. My job scope is mainly a phone receptionist plus giving support to the marketing manager as well as the sales team. But basically I'll be taking and answering enquiries most of the time.

Q3. What is my working hours?

A: I'll be working 6 days a week, all saturdays also have to work. Mon-Fri is from 9am-6pm, whereas for Sat it is from 9am-1pm.

Q4. How much is my salary?

A: Well, my starting pay is the same as my last pay from my ex-company. Hopefully after confirmation they will increase my pay. (If I manage to stay till after probation haha)

Q5. Hmm.. got anymore ques ar?

A: I think that's it, basically those are what I was asked during conversation.

I'm starting my first day this Monday, wish me luck peeps!
